Import links from Bitly to cutty
You don't need a paid Bitly plan to take your links with you. Just an API token — cutty fetches everything from every group.
How it works
- Create a free account on cutty.dev.
- In Bitly, go to Settings → Developer settings → API and generate a token.
- In the cutty panel, click + import links from another shortener, choose Bitly, the Via API tab, and paste the token.
- We fetch links from all your groups. At the end you'll see how many were added and how many slugs were kept.
Why via API and not an export?
Bitly only offers CSV export on paid plans (Growth and up). The API works on the free plan too, so it's the simplest route. Already have a file from Links → Export? Upload it in the CSV file tab — we recognize the columns Destination URL, Link and Custom Link.
What comes over, and what stays
- Comes over: destination URL, slug, title, tags and creation date. Every link gets the tag
bitly. - Stays in Bitly: the bit.ly domain and click history. Old bit.ly links keep working.
bit.ly slugs are usually random strings, so most will carry over 1:1 — only the domain changes. We'll also keep your own slugs (Custom Link), as long as they're free.
What you get in cutty for free
Click analytics without cookies (countries, devices, browsers, hourly breakdown), QR codes with your logo, tags and folders, country and device rules, A/B rotation, a start schedule, webhooks, a link-in-bio page, an API and an MCP server. No ad pixels, on an EU server.
Frequently asked questions
Will my old Bitly short links stop working?
No. The import copies destination URLs, slugs and tags into your cutty account, and your Bitly account is left untouched. Old short links keep working for as long as Bitly keeps them online. You can start pointing new links to cutty.dev right away.
Will I keep my slugs?
Yes, if that slug is free on cutty.dev and is 3 to 40 characters (letters, digits, _ and -). Taken or invalid slugs get a new, random one — after the import you'll see how many.
What happens to my API key?
We use it only for this one-time link fetch. We don't store it in our database and it never reaches our logs. Prefer not to share it at all? A CSV export works just as well.
Links without tracking, hosted in the EU
cutty doesn't use ad pixels or tracking cookies. You get analytics, QR codes, tags, an API and an MCP server — on the free plan.
