You don't have to start from zero
The most common reason people don't switch shorteners is the hundreds of links they already have somewhere else. Nobody wants to copy them over by hand. As of today, you don't have to.
How it works
In the panel, below the new-link form, there's a button: "import links from another shortener". Pick the service and one of two routes:
- Via API — paste a key or token from your previous service, and cutty fetches the entire link list itself. Works with Bitly (free plan included), TinyURL, Rebrandly, Short.io, Dub, T.LY and BL.INK, plus self-hosted YOURLS, Kutt and Shlink.
- From a CSV file — upload the export and you're done. We detect the destination URL, short link, title, tags and date columns automatically, so a file from cutt.ly, Replug or Switchy will work without any editing.
What comes over
Destination URL, slug (as long as it's free on cutty.dev), title, tags and creation date. Every imported link can get a tag with the service name, so you know at a glance where it came from. Run the import a second time, and links you already have get skipped.
There's one thing we won't move: the domain. Old short links like bit.ly/abc keep working with your previous provider for as long as they keep them online. You can start pointing new places to cutty.dev right away.
About the API key
We use it only for that one fetch. We don't store it in our database, it never reaches our logs, and it's never echoed back in the response. For self-hosted services, we only connect to public addresses — there's no way to reach internal networks this way.
Step-by-step instructions for the most popular services are on the Bitly, TinyURL, cutt.ly, Rebrandly and Short.io pages. If something won't load — email [email protected] with a snippet of the file and I'll fix it.
