Branded Endpoints - Your Link, Your Brand

Choosing a short link suffix is a small detail that matters more than you might think. I show why cutty.dev/your-brand works differently than random 8-character strings.

Standard link shorteners give you a random string after the slash — cutty.dev/k3n9X. It works, but it looks like a database leak. cutty.dev lets you choose any suffix: cutty.dev/oferta, cutty.dev/poradnik, cutty.dev/twoja-marka.

Sounds simple. Underneath are three consequences that are worth understanding.

First consequence: the link is read as a brand name

cutty.dev/k3n9X in the Instagram bio looks like a password generator. cutty.dev/janek looks like a personal website address.

The difference is not just aesthetic. People click on links that look familiar. A short, readable suffix:

  • Conveys information (cutty.dev/pricing hints at what you’ll find after clicking)
  • Easy to remember (you can explain it over the phone: "go to cutty dot dev slash pricing")
  • Can be typed manually from paper (printed flyer, product packaging, presentation)
  • Doesn’t look like spam (anti-spam filters are less suspicious of readable words than random strings)

Second Consequence: The Endgame Is Yours Forever

Here is a detail that is worth understanding. When you create cutty.dev/oferta, this suffix is permanently assigned to this specific link. Even if you delete the link, no one else can take that same suffix.

Why is this important? Because if your QR code from cutty.dev/oferta is printed on 50,000 flyers that you distribute over the next 3 months, you don’t want it to suddenly redirect somewhere else one morning — because someone else created a link with the same suffix after you deleted yours.

cutty.dev gives a firm guarantee here: the suffix goes into the pool reserved at the time of creation and stays there. Even after deleting the link, the same suffix returns a 404 instead of redirecting anywhere else. You can safely print QR codes.

Third consequence: control over SEO

The URL is one of Google's ranking factors. A short, descriptive ending with keywords (cutty.dev/poradnik-marketingu instead of cutty.dev/x7k2m) provides a subtle SEO boost for links that are widely cited on the internet.

This is not a game-changer — one short link won’t get you into the top ten of search engine results. But if your marketing campaign requires hundreds of thousands of redirect links to a specific page, clean endings provide a small additional signal to Google "these are intentionally configured links, not spam."

How to set a branded endpoint in cutty.dev

In the form on the main page:

  1. Paste the long URL into the field
  2. Expand the Advanced options section
  3. Enter any suffix in the "Custom suffix" field

Rules:

  • 3 to 40 characters
  • Letters, digits, underscore (_) and hyphen (-)
  • No Polish diacritical marks (the system will automatically remove them)
  • No spaces (hyphens instead of spaces is the standard)

The suffix must be free. If cutty.dev/oferta is already taken by someone else, the system will display a message and ask for another one.

What to avoid when choosing a tip

Generic words already taken by someone else. If your company is named "Janowski Bike" and you want cutty.dev/bike, someone else might have already claimed that suffix. Go more specific: cutty.dev/janowski-bike or cutty.dev/oferta-rowerow.

Long endings defeat the purpose of a short link. cutty.dev/wyprzedaz-jesienna-2026-tylko-do-niedzieli-30-procent-znizki is technically correct, but it goes against the essence of URL shortening. Stick to 8-20 characters.

Brand inside the slug. cutty.dev/cutty-promo is redundant — "cutty" is already in the domain. Just use cutty.dev/promo.

Endings that look like a phishing attempt. cutty.dev/login-bank or cutty.dev/zweryfikuj-konto-natychmiast may trigger anti-phishing filters in email clients. It's better to use cutty.dev/sprawdz-promocje or something that sounds neutral.
